A tragic incident occurred during the Dahi Handi celebrations in Mankhurd on Saturday when a 32-year-old man lost his life after falling while tying the rope for the event.

 

According to officials, the incident was reported around 3 pm from Maharashtra Nagar, Mankhurd, where the Bal Govinda Pathak was preparing for the Dahi Handi festival. During the preparations, Jagmohan Shivkiran Chaudhari (32), a member of the pathak, lost balance and fell.

 

He was immediately rushed to Shatabdi Hospital in Govandi, where doctors declared him “brought dead.”

 

Meanwhile, reports from various government and BMC hospitals across Mumbai indicate multiple injuries linked to Dahi Handi celebrations. As of 3 pm, a total of 29 Govindas were reported injured in different parts of the city. Out of these, 15 have been discharged after treatment, while 14 continue to receive medical care.

 

Break-up of injuries  reported:

 

Mumbai City: 18 injured; 12 discharged, 6 under treatment

 

Mumbai Eastern Suburbs: 6 injured; 3 discharged, 3 under treatment

 

Mumbai Western Suburbs: 6 injured; 5 discharged, 1 under treatment

 

 

Police have taken note of the incidents, and safety measures during Dahi Handi festivities are once again under discussion.
