A 4-year-old boy, Athang Tawde, who was struck by a Shivshahi bus in the Parel area of Mumbai, died on Tuesday, February 17, after struggling for 13 days for life at the KEM hospital in Mumbai. After the accident, had been admitted to the Paediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) of KEM hospital and has been receiving treatment since then. 

People close to his family told LokmatTimes.com that from Monday (February 16) he was not responding and doctors had put him on a ventilator due to his serious condition. The incident that had occurred on February 4, when Athang was returning home from school with his father, Mandar Tawde, on a scooter.

Mandar Tawde alleged that they were riding towards Lalbaug after descending the Parel bridge, and they stopped at the traffic signal near the Central Railway Workshop. During this, a speeding Shivshahi bus rammed into their motorcycle from behind after breaking the signal.

The bus number  MH09 EM 8639 was being driven by Shyamrao Nathrao Nagargoje. In a complaint, the father said the bus driver was negligent and lost control of the bus and rammed into their scooter.

Athang sustained serious injuries, and his Mandar Tawde was also injured and has recovered. However, Athang could not survive and succumbed to his injuries on Tuesday and the body will be handed over to the family on Wednesday after the postmortem.

Meanwhile, the Shivshahi bus driver was arrested but later released on bail. The incident has sparked anger among residents, who are demanding strict action against the responsible driver.
