Mumbai: Ugandan Passenger Held at CSMI Airport with Rs 10.22 Crore Worth of Cocaine

Customs officials at Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj International (CSMI) Airport, Mumbai, seized suspected cocaine/methaqualone weighing 1.022 kg, valued at approximately ₹10.22 crore in the illicit market. One passenger has been arrested in connection with the case.

 

On 16 February 2025, a passenger arriving from Entebbe, Uganda, on Ugandan Airlines flight UR 430 was intercepted by customs officials at Mumbai airport. During questioning about his travel details and purpose of visit, the passenger displayed signs of nervousness. Upon further interrogation, he admitted to ingesting multiple capsules containing a white crumbled substance, suspected to be narcotic drugs.

 

The passenger was then presented before the Hon’ble Judicial Magistrate, who ordered a medically supervised recovery process. Over the next three days, 84 capsules containing a total of 1.022 kg of suspected cocaine/methaqualone were purged from the passenger’s body.

 

Following the recovery, the accused was arrested under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, 1985. Further investigation into the case is underway.
