For the past few days, residents in Sewri and Kalachowki areas in Mumbai have been experiencing unannounced water cuts, with supply reduced by 10 to 30 minutes from the regular schedule. Residents allege that the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has imposed water cuts without prior notice.

According to the information, the water stock in all seven reservoirs supplying Mumbai has dropped to 47%, less than half of their total capacity. As summer temperatures rise, increased evaporation is expected to further reduce water levels. Residents suspect that the civic body has preemptively started water cuts to manage the dwindling supply.

Currently, temperatures are hovering around 37 degrees Celsius, exacerbating the evaporation rate. The existing water stock must last for the next three to four months. Former BMC corporator Sachin Padwal claimed that people in Sewri East and West are facing water shortages due to the reduced supply duration.

Low-pressure water supply has plagued the Sewri area for several months. In October, MLA Ajay Chaudhary led a Handa Morcha protest to demand better water supply, but the situation remains unresolved.

Water is typically supplied from 6 to 9 pm in Reti Bunder in Mahim, but residents report that supply ends by 8:45 pm. In Sewri Gadi Adda, supply is scheduled from 7 to 9 pm but often starts late at 7:10 pm and ends by 8:45 pm. Indiranagar, Haji Bandar Road, and Forsberry Road, which should receive water from 6:45 to 8:45 pm, experience similar reductions. Padwal has submitted a memorandum to the BMC, urging the restoration of regular water supply in the affected areas.
