Mumbaikars will experience a temporary reduction in water supply as the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has announced a 10 per cent water cut across several parts of the city from January 27 to February 7. The civic body had implemented the temporary reduction to facilitate annual maintenance of the Pneumatic Gate System at Pise, a crucial component of Mumbai’s water distribution network. Alongside routine servicing, engineers also undertook the task of shifting 12 water connections from the ageing Vaitarna pipeline to a larger main pipeline to strengthen the city’s supply infrastructure. The 10 per cent water cut affected South Mumbai, parts of central Mumbai, and large sections of the eastern suburbs over the past 11 days.

In South Mumbai, areas that experienced reduced water supply included the Naval Dockyard area in A Ward, all of B Ward, and parts of C Ward such as Bhendi Bazaar, Bohri Mohalla and Ghoghari Mohalla. In central Mumbai, supply was curtailed in E Ward, F South Ward and F North Ward.

Residents across the eastern suburbs also faced low water pressure in areas including Mulund East and West, Bhandup, Nahur, Kanjurmarg, Vikhroli East and West (S and N Wards), Ghatkopar East, Kurla East, and all localities under M East and M West Wards. Civic officials have confirmed that normal water supply will be fully restored after today, once the maintenance and pipeline-related works are completed, bringing an end to the temporary disruption.
