The Vasai-Virar Municipal Corporation planned a week-long water cut to complete technical work under Phase 2 of the Surya Water Supply Scheme, implemented by the Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA).
Wards under Vasai–Virar required about 400 million litres of water. At present, it receives about 350 million litres from Surya Phases 1 and 3 of MMRDA. However, from April 4 to April 10, 2026, the MMRDA will shut down part of the Surya Water Supply Schemes to undertake Phase 2 work, which will affect nearly 150 million litres of supply.
The Phase 2 work will lead to a shortage in the city’s daily water supply. During this period, the Municipal Corporation will implement a zoning system, under which water supply will be suspended for 24 hours from 10 am to 10 am the following day, in designated areas below.
Water Supply Schedule:
April 4 – Virar East and WestApril 5 – Nalasopara East and WestApril 6 – Navghar, VasaiApril 7 – Virar East and WestApril 8 – Nalasopara East and WestApril 9 – Navghar, VasaiApril 10 – Virar West and Nalasopara West
Due to low pressure and limited availability during the repair work, the civic body has urged citizens to use water judiciously during this period. The Water Supply Department has also appealed to citizens to cooperate with the authorities. Normal water supply is expected to be restored gradually from April 11 in all the above areas.
