New details have come to light in the investigation into the deaths of four members of the Dokadia family in Mumbai’s Pydhonie area, with forensic reports indicating the presence of zinc phosphide in both the victims’ bodies and a watermelon sample seized from their house.
The four family members died under suspicious circumstances on April 26, 2026, after reportedly consuming watermelon the previous night. The incident had raised several questions, and investigators are now examining whether poisoning caused the deaths.
According to sources, salt samples collected from the house have also been sent for forensic testing. Police suspect that salt mixed with zinc phosphide may have been applied to the watermelon. Investigators are currently trying to trace the source of the toxic substance, as zinc phosphide was not found elsewhere inside the house.
A report from Sir JJ Hospital stated that all four victims died due to zinc phosphide poisoning. The toxic chemical was reportedly detected in the bodies of all family members as well as in the watermelon sample collected during the investigation.

The histopathology report has further confirmed signs of poisoning. According to the findings, liver and kidney samples of the deceased showed a greenish discolouration, which experts consider an important indicator of zinc phosphide poisoning.
A team of forensic experts and doctors from JJ Hospital is now conducting a detailed study of the medical reports. Officials are examining the symptoms experienced by the victims, the progression of their condition, and the overall medical circumstances surrounding the deaths.
According to the investigation, the Dokadia family consumed watermelon on the night of April 25. Soon afterwards, all four reportedly developed symptoms including vomiting, dizziness and stomach pain. Their condition worsened the following day.
Both daughters were later found unconscious and the family was rushed to JJ Hospital. One of the girls was declared dead on arrival, while the second daughter died a few hours later. The parents also died shortly afterwards during treatment.
Police are continuing their investigation into the case and are awaiting further forensic confirmation regarding the exact sequence of events leading to the deaths.
