In anticipation of a heatwave over the next two days, the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) on Tuesday issued a yellow advisory for Mumbai, Thane, Palghar, and a few other districts in Maharashtra. Mumbai had one of the hottest temperatures of March on the 11th day of the month, with a top temperature of 39.2 degrees Celsius.

The IMD weather bulletin from Tuesday states that the weather department has predicted "heatwave conditions in isolated pockets of Mumbai".

Palghar and Thane have also received a similar advisory of the heatstroke.

Additionally, a yellow alert was issued for several Maharashtra districts, including Ratnagiri and Raigad.

Notably, the city's heatwave warning for March 11 was revoked by the IMD on March 10. But in the afternoon, the temperature spiked, and a heatwave was announced for the day.

Since the last week of February, Mumbai has experienced an extraordinary increase in temperature.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) released rules for Mumbai residents on Monday in response to the heatwave that is affecting the city and its surrounding areas.

To prevent the negative effects of the rising heat, the BMC urged the populace to drink plenty of water and adopt other safety measures.

March temperatures in 2015, 2018, 2019, and 2021 were the last to surpass 40 degrees Celsius. On March 28, 1956, the hottest March temperature ever recorded was 41.7 degrees Celsius.
