Mumbai and its surrounding metropolitan areas have recorded a sharp rise in temperatures during the first week of February 2026, sparking concerns of an unseasonably early onset of summer. Despite the winter season officially remaining in effect, the mercury has consistently climbed 3 to 4 degrees Celsius above the seasonal average, according to the latest data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
The Santacruz observatory in Mumbai recorded a maximum temperature of 34.5 degrees Celsius on Sunday (February 8), while Colaba witnessed 33.4 degrees Celsius. These shows significant rise in temperature by 3.6 degrees Celsius and 3.7 degrees Celsius higher than normal temperature, respectively.

Night-time temperatures have also remained fluctuating. Minimum temperatures recorded by Colaba Metrological Centre were 22 degrees Celsius, while Santacruz saw 19.2 degrees Celsius, both approximately 2 degrees above the expected average for this time of year. Nearby coastal areas are experiencing even more intense heat, with Ratnagiri in the Konkan division recording a peak of 36 degrees Celsius.
Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli Weather Forecast
Thane and Kalyan-Dombivli are expected to see slightly more stable conditions. Although the weather remains dry, forecasts for today, 9 February, suggest a minor dip in the mercury for these suburbs.
Temperatures in the Thane belt are projected to hover between 30 degrees Celsius and 33 degrees Celsius, offering marginal relief compared to the coastal heat seen in the main city.
