Amboli Police have registered a case of fraud amounting to ₹9 crore, where a woman from Jogeshwari was allegedly duped under the pretext of investing in cancer research. The accused, identified as Shahnila Syed, lured the complainant with promises of a 4-5% monthly return on investment. However, it was later revealed that the ₹9 crore given to the accused was never actually invested in research. Authorities suspect that Syed has deceived multiple individuals in a similar manner, and further investigation is underway.
Based on the complaint, Amboli Police have filed a case under Bhartiya Nyay Sanhita Sections 316(2) (Criminal Breach of Trust) and 318(4) (Cheating) against Shahnila Syed. According to the complainant, Syed introduced herself as a doctor and claimed that a reputed hospital in Navi Mumbai was conducting medical research on cancer treatment. She allegedly convinced the victim that investing in this research would double the invested amount within a short period.
Between October 30, 2023, and September 7, 2024, the complainant invested a total of ₹10.25 crore in three different bank accounts. In return, she initially received a profit of ₹1.18 crore, which further strengthened her trust in Syed. Encouraged by these returns, not only did she invest more, but even her acquaintances began investing through Syed.
However, after some time, the promised returns stopped. When the complainant questioned Syed about the delay, she was given various excuses. Upon further investigation, it was discovered that the money was never actually used for cancer research. Instead, ₹9.06 crore from the complainant’s investment was allegedly misappropriated for personal use.
When the complainant demanded her money back, Syed failed to return any amount. Realizing the fraud, the victim finally lodged a complaint with Amboli Police. Following an initial inquiry, police registered a case of cheating and criminal breach of trust. Further investigations into the matter are ongoing.
