Heavy police with investigation agencies, including Mumbai Crime Branch and zonal police, reached the spot after the incident. Assailants had used a scooter to reach the director's residence and parked the scooter at some distance, after one of them allegedly walked towards the premises and opened fire.

A case was registered on a complaint filed by Shetty's security guard under BNS for attempt to murder, along with sections of the Arms Act. After a quick investigation by the Mumbai Police, five suspects were detained from Pune and were brought to Mumbai, where four were formally arrested by the Anti-Extortion Cell of the city crime branch and remanded to police custody till February 5.

The accused identified as Samarth Pomaji, Aman Marote, Aditya Gayaki, Siddharth Yenpure and Swapnil Sakat. Shubham Lonkar, a member of the Lawrence Bishnoi gang and an accused in the murder of NCP leader Baba Siddique, remains wanted, as hours after the firing, a threatening social-media post surfaced claiming Lonkar’s involvement and warning of further attacks.
