Mumbai’s Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) arrested two police personnel for allegedly accepting a bribe of ₹20,000 in exchange for releasing a seized car linked to a criminal case. The accused have been identified as Assistant Sub-Inspector Sunil Mahadev Desai and Police Constable Vikram Atul Shendge, both attached to the MHB police station. Following their arrest, a special sessions court has remanded them to police custody.

According to the ACB, the complainant, a 38-year-old individual, had an accident case registered against him at MHB police station last week. As part of the investigation, the police had seized his car. When the complainant visited the police station to discuss the matter, ASI Sunil Desai allegedly demanded a bribe of ₹35,000 to help him in the case and facilitate the release of his car.

Finding the amount too high, the complainant negotiated and agreed to pay ₹20,000. However, unwilling to pay the bribe, he approached the ACB on March 18 and filed a complaint against ASI Desai. After verifying the allegations, ACB officials set up a trap.

As per the plan, Constable Vikram Shendge accepted ₹20,000 from the complainant on behalf of ASI Desai. The ACB team immediately caught him red-handed with the bribe amount. Since he was acting on the instructions of ASI Desai, both were arrested under the Prevention of Corruption Act.

Further investigations are underway to determine if they were involved in similar corrupt activities.
