Western Railway (WR), in collaboration with the Mumbai Railway Vikas Corporation (MRVC), has achieved a key milestone under the Virar–Dahanu Road quadrupling project by completing major capacity augmentation works at Virar station. As part of the upgrade, platforms 3A and 4A have been widened from 6.5 metres to 10.5 metres and extended to accommodate 15-coach local trains, replacing the earlier 12-coach capacity. This enhancement is expected to significantly improve passenger handling at one of the busiest suburban stations on the Western Railway corridor.

Additionally, a new home platform — platform 5A — has been constructed on the western side of the station, further strengthening the station’s infrastructure. Notably, the entire project has been completed in a record time of just four months. An EMU trial run was successfully carried out by Western Railway in coordination with MRVC. The upgraded platforms are now expected to be handed over to the zonal railway soon, paving the way for the introduction of 15-coach suburban services. The development is set to considerably boost carrying capacity and improve commuter convenience on the busy corridor.
