West Bengal Assembly Election Result 2026: ‘People Trust PM Modi,’ Says Ashish Shelar; Hails BJP’s Strong Performance
Celebrations erupted outside the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) office in Mumbai after early counting trends in the West Bengal Assembly elections indicated that the party was moving past the majority mark. Party workers gathered in large numbers, waving flags, bursting crackers and raising slogans in support of the BJP leadership. Responding to the early developments, Maharashtra Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar said the trends reflected the increasing confidence people across the country have placed in Prime Minister Narendra Modi. He stated that the BJP’s growing presence in several states demonstrates wider public acceptance of the party’s governance model and development-focused political agenda across India.
Commenting on the developments in West Bengal, Shelar claimed that voters had expressed dissatisfaction with the Trinamool Congress government led by Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. He alleged that the electorate had rejected what he described as years of poor governance, political unrest and injustice in the state. According to him, the emerging results suggested that traditional political equations in Bengal were weakening as citizens looked for an alternative leadership. He further said the BJP’s performance indicated a major political shift in the state and highlighted the party’s growing ability to challenge established regional forces in different parts of the country.

Shelar also referred to election trends from other states, including Assam, where he said the BJP appeared set to secure another strong mandate under the leadership of Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma. He credited the government’s focus on development and governance for the party’s performance. The minister further claimed that the BJP was witnessing a steady rise in its vote share in states such as Kerala and Tamil Nadu, which he described as signs of the party’s national expansion. He praised BJP workers for campaigning under difficult circumstances in several states and thanked supporters and their families for contributing to the party’s growing electoral strength as leaders awaited the final results.
