On Google Maps, the Western Express Highway was renamed as Western Urban Road between Bandra and Goregaon. Since there was no official announcement made about this name change on Google Maps, Mumbaikars were confused. The name change news is now viral on X, a microblogging platform.

Mumbaikars are vocal about this confusion and are complaining about this name change without announcement on social media.

A user posted, “Who dared to @googlemaps Western Express Highway rename as WESTERN URBAN ROAD in some part of metropolis as in screenshot of  @GoogleIndia?”

Another user posted, “The Western Express Highway has now been renamed as Western Urban Road!''

A user spoke about focusing on infrastructure development. He posted, “Western Express Highway (WEH) is now Western Urban Rd in Mumbai. But will changing names do any good for the daily commuters? Focus should be to create ample infrastructure.”

Another user posted, “The Western Express Highway, which spans 8-10 lanes, has been renamed as Western Urban Road, with authorities opting not to classify it as an 'Express' highway.”

Meanwhile, there was a huge traffic jam on the Western Express Highway on February 21. People were stuck for a long time during peak hours.
