An elderly woman has been in a coma for over one month after she was seriously injured when a stray bull struck her outside her residence in Maharashtra's Nagpur. The woman was identified as Vandana Devikar (64). The incident occurred on January 27 while she was sweeping in front of her house. The bull suddenly attacked her at around 7.30 am when the street was relatively deserted.
The attack was so severe that multiple bones in her body, including her ribs, were fractured. She also suffered serious brain injuries. The bull’s horn pierced her thigh during the attack. After battling for life in the ICU for three weeks and undergoing a complicated brain surgery in which a part of her skull had to be removed. Devikar has still not regained consciousness. She has neither opened her eyes nor spoken for the last month.

Despite the family spending lakhs of rupees on treatment, the internal brain injuries caused by the attack remain critical. She now lies unconscious at home, unable to move or open her eyes. What has angered residents even more is that not a single officer or corporator from the Nagpur Municipal Corporation has visited the family or inquired about the victim’s condition, even a month after the attack.
The police have only completed the basic formalities of seizing her blood-stained clothes. Meanwhile, the same bull continues to roam freely in the area, creating panic among residents. Citizens say the fear of the stray bull and the negligence of the civic body have led to widespread anger in the locality.
