Nagpur, Dec7

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) had fixed the tenure of Mayor Sandip Joshi and accordingly he will resign in January and senior corporator Dayashankar Tiwari would likely to get an opportunity to become mayor.

Last year in November Nanda Jichkar had resigned from mayor post. Then Tiwari had made the claim for the post and at the same time Joshi''s name was also discussed for this post. BJP city chief and MLC Pravin Datke had announced that both Joshi and Tiwari will share the post for one and quarter year each. As per party decision, Joshi''s tenure would come to an end in January. Tiwari will take the charge of 54th mayor of the city but for that he would have to complete the technical procedure. Joshi will have to resign and committee will have to table the proposal in the house regarding the election of new mayor. When Joshi was made mayor as many as 104 corporators had supported him.

Meanwhile on Monday there were rumours about Sandip Joshi''s resignation from mayor post after suffering defeat in the graduates'' constituency election. NMC officials, employees and corporators were seen discussing this issue throughout the day. However, the party has rejected it. When contacted city BJP chief Pravin Datke and leader of rulling party in NMC Sandip Jadhav both refused that Joshi had tendered is resignation.
