A married woman who went to settle a dispute died due to burn injuries. The news has created quite a stir in the city. The matter has become complicated as the woman succumbed to the burn injuries. The police are facing lot of complications, due to the chronology of events of the death and the statement of the woman before her death. The police have arrested the woman’s boyfriend and were trying to find out exact details and chronology of event from him till 10.30 pm on Saturday.

The deceased has been identified as Shabana (40), a resident of Pachpaoli and use to work in an automobile company in Dhantoli. On her way back home after work around 7 pm on Friday, she saw a young woman arguing near Haldiram in Sadar. So she stopped and tried to intervene. She told the police at 3 am on Saturday that the the youth poured petrol on her body and set her on fire. Doctors declared the woman dead at around 7.45 am on Saturday.

After recording her statement, Sadar police constable Santosh Bakal and his colleagues checked the CCTV footage of the area as well as all the surrounding areas. However, no such incident was seen captured on the CCTV cameras. So the police checked the CCTV footage of the hospital as well as the CDR of her mobile and arrested a young man on Saturday evening. He was being interrogated at the Sadar police station till 10.30 pm. According to sources, the young man lives in a rented flat in Sadar. He met the woman through Facebook App in 2017 and they developed a relationship. But recently they started quarreling. Against this backdrop, the woman arrived at the young man''s apartment on Friday night. There was an argument between the two and then the woman got burn injuries. She was admitted to Seven Star Hospital by the same young man. He informed the police that he did not burn her, but she immolated herself. The police are investigating all the possible angles in the case.

Various theories floating around

The information given by the woman in her pre-death statement and the fact that the actual scene and chronology of the incident did not match, have led various theories. The incident has caused quite a stir in the city as well as in the police department. Additional commissioner of police Navin Reddy and DCP Vinita Sahu discussed the matter with the doctors at the hospital where the woman died. The police investigated the crime scene and the surrounding area. They also inspected the flat of her alleged lover. But police officials could not reach on any conclusion. “We will soon find out the exact truth in the matter” senior officials told Lokmat Times.
