Covid-19: No heatstroke cases in past two years

Due to the corona infection since March 2020, not a single case of heatstroke has been reported in the district in the last two years 2020 and ongoing 2021.

On the other hand, 86 heatstroke patients were reported in the district in 2019. Summers in Nagpur are very harsh and temperature goes beyond 45 degrees Celsius almost every year. But in March 2020, due to corona infection there was a strict lockdown and it stretched till June 2020. Citizens preferred to stay indoors due to fear of infection. The summers were hot last year. The mercury was above 45 to 46 degree Celsius. However, no heatstroke occurred in the district as citizens locked themselves inside home. This year too, the lockdown has started from April 15. A special isolation ward is set up in hospital every year for the treatment of heat stroke patients. and a special cell is also created. This year the ward has been converted into a corona isolation ward.

Rise in temperature

The months of April, May and June are the hottest months in Nagpur. This year May 6 was the hottest day till now. The temperature was recorded at 42.2 degrees Celsius. It was followed by May 13 at 41.9 and May 5 at 41.8. The first week of April was also severe. On April 6 it was 42 degrees Celsius, while April on 7 it was 41.8 degrees Celsius. The weather has changed over the past week. The mercury has been hovering between 37 and 38 for the past two days.

Summer at home

The whole summer is being spent at home due to corona restrictions. Children are not going to schools. Online schools, online classes and offices are also online. Everyone is safe as they venture out in morning for important work only.

Citizens preferred to stay indoors this year and past year and due to the fear of corona infection. As a result, the annual heatstroke cases were not seen this year unlike two years before.
