Nagpur, Nov19

As expected the West Zone Junior Athletics Championship scheduled to be organised by Maharashtra Athletics Association (MAA) on November 28 and 29 has been postponed by Athletics Federation of India till further notice.

The readers may recall that the Lokmat Times in its October 23 issue has already highlighted how there was uncertainty over district, state as well as west zone championships against the backdrop of Covid-19 pandemic.

The MAA district units has received the two-line message from MAA secretary that the West Zone Junior Athletics Championship to be held on November 28 and 29 has been postponed. Talking to Lokmat Times NDAA secretary and MAA joint secretary Dr Sharad Suryavanshi said, “ We received the message from MAA secretary that the West Zone Championship has been postponed. It was supposed to be organised at Pune. We don''t know when it will take place in future”, he said.

Although the West Zone Championship has been postponed by the federation, the MAA has not declared anything about junior and district championships.

MAA had asked all the district units to hold the district meet before November 2 and the State championship was supposed to be organised from November 5 to 11.

The million dollar question is why MAA is taking time to declare the postponment of these two championships.

It can be mentioned here that two days back the Athletics Federation of India had postponed their National Throws Championship . Following it, the experts in the field of athletics had already hinted that West Zone championship and other championships are also likely to be postponed.
