Over 70 students were not allowed to attend their mid-term first-year MBA exams by the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Nagpur after they were found attending a resort "pool party" without prior permission from the institute. The disciplinary action was taken for violating hostel rules.

Nearly 70 to 75 students of second-year MBA students visited a resort on February 14 for a pool party organised by student clubs as a farewell for the outgoing second-year batch, according NDTV report. The pool party ended the next day in the morning, after which students headed to their campus, where they were stopped at the main gate by authorities.

According to reports, on Monday night, students received an email from the administration claiming that they would not be allowed to attend a mid-term exam scheduled on February 24 as disciplinary action. The final exam for the second-year MBA students will begin on February 25.

With this, nearly 400 students from both batches stage silent protest inside the campus and warned of boycotting the exams. The protest was later withdrawn after the administration clarified its position. The institute said that the disciplinary action will be applied only to first-year batch students who attended the pool party without approval from the institute.

The institute further said that the second-year students will be allowed to sit in their final exams. Students who had obtained prior permission will not face any action. The administration also indicated that mid-term examinations for the affected first-year students will be conducted at a later date.

In this case, the institute also contacted the parents of female students who attended the pool party. The institution informed parents that their children had violated the hostel rules by staying outside the hostel. The move drew objections from students, who questioned why only the parents of female students were informed.
