Nagpur, May 22

A man who alighted from a GT Express and was crossing a foot over bridge on the Cotton Market side, was held with `60 lakh cash. The person concerned has been taken into custody and handed over to the income tax department for further investigation. Railway security force inspector R L Meena was patrolling on Platform No. 8 with Sikandar Yadav and Kamsingh Thakur at 10.10 am on Saturday.

They observed a man moving in a suspicious manner with a large trolley bag. When asked what was in the trolley bag, he did not give a satisfactory answer. Upon further investigation, he said there was cash in the bag. He gave his name as Shabbir Hussain Hasan Ali Karanjawala (55) resident of House No. 858, Itwari Road near Raja Masjid, Bengali Punja.

When he was brought to the RPF station for questioning, he informed that he was working at Ismail & Sons Pachpaoli Road Ganjakhet Chowk. He said that he came from Itarsi by GT Express (coach number B-2, berth 38) with cash of Ismail & Sons.

After checking his bag before two witnesses, they found 12,000 notes of `500 (`60 lakh), 49 documents and a travel ticket.

Meanwhile, the confiscated amount, along with the documents, was handed over to the concerned person at the I-T department. The action was taken under the guidance of senior divisional security Commissioner Ashutosh Pandey.
