Nagpur, Maharashtra (July 9, 2025): An 18-year-old youth died, and two others went missing after being swept away in separate incidents during heavy rainfall in Nagpur district. The deceased has been identified as Kartik Shivshankar Ladpe, a resident of Uppalwadi. He was swept away by a flooded stream and later found dead. In Kalmeshwar taluka, a 35-year-old man named Anil Hanuman Panpatte from Mauje Borgaon was washed away in the flow of a stream. Another person was reported missing from the Narsala-Hudkeshwar area after being carried away in floodwaters. Search operations are ongoing to locate them.
According to the district administration, 13 out of the 14 talukas in Nagpur have received heavy rainfall. The rainfall has caused significant damage across the district. Eleven animals have died and two were injured. Around 453 houses have been partially damaged while four houses were completely destroyed.
The district recorded an average of 140 millimetres of rainfall on July 8. In Umred and Kuhi talukas, the rainfall crossed 200 millimetres. Urban areas recorded more than 100 millimetres. By 5 p.m., more than 138 people were rescued and moved to safer locations. Those rescued were from Kamptee, Nagpur Rural, Nagpur City and Kuhi talukas.
Floodwaters flowed over 23 bridges in the district, cutting off access to several villages for a few hours. Many residents stranded due to flooding were rescued with help from local teams, the State Disaster Response Force and the National Disaster Response Force. Water entered 246 homes in Nagpur Rural taluka.
District Collector Dr. Vipin Itankar has urged citizens not to step out unless necessary. He said that all precautions are being taken as more rain is expected based on weather forecasts.
