A tragic incident occurred at a railway station in Nagpur on Sunday afternoon, when a young man attempted to climb onto a stationary train standing on the platform. During the attempt, he accidentally came into contact with the overhead equipment (OHE) wire, resulting in a powerful electric shock. The impact caused him to fall onto the platform, leading to his death on the spot. The incident took place at Platform No. 8, also known as the Homeland Platform. The identity of the deceased remains unknown so far, and officials have begun preliminary inquiries into the matter.
According to initial information, the man, believed to be around 35 years old, had arrived at the station earlier in the afternoon. At approximately 3:45 pm, he suddenly climbed onto a coal-laden goods train that was stationed on the goods siding near the platform. Within moments, he came in contact with the high-voltage OHE wire above the train, which led to a severe electric shock. He immediately collapsed to the ground. When people nearby rushed to check on him, they found that he had already succumbed to his injuries at the scene, confirming the fatal nature of the accident.
The incident also caused a temporary disruption in the railway’s electrical supply, as the OHE wire snapped due to the impact. Upon receiving information, the railway’s OHE maintenance team quickly reached the spot and carried out necessary repair work to restore normal operations. Meanwhile, the Government Railway Police registered a case of accidental death and initiated further investigation. The body was sent to Mayo Hospital for post-mortem examination. Police Inspector Gaurav Gavande stated that the deceased has not yet been identified, and investigations are ongoing to determine further details.
