The state government has banned the direct sale of Remdesivir injections, which are useful in preventive treatment of patients suffering from severe corona infection. The district administration has made available the facility of making Remdesivir injection available at MRP on the prescription of a doctor from the pharmacy of Covid Hospital. However, the owners of medical stores in the city are taking advantage of this facility. A family member of an extension officer in Nagpur Zilla Parishad was admitted to a private Covid hospital at Tukdoji Square after he contracted the corona virus and became critically ill.
As the patient’s condition was serious, the doctors of the hospital wrote a prescription and sent relatives from the medical stores near the hospital to bring Remdesivir. After showing the doctor’s prescription the medical store allegedly demanded `20,000 per injection of Remdesivir. When relatives demanded a bill for the injection, they were told they would not get the bill take it or leave it. The relatives buy such an expensive injection. As the patient’s condition was deteriorating, the extension officer working in the Zilla Parishad brought this fact to the notice of the district administration and other government agencies, but to no avail. They just asked him to ask for a bill. Eventually, the patient's oxygen level dropped to 75 and he was discharged from the private hospital and admitted to a government hospital.
