Nagpur, Nov 4

In order to overcome the problems caused by heavy vehicular traffic, it was decided to construct Pardi flyover. The residents were promised an accident free Pardi area. But six years have passed, not even 40 percent of the flyover has been completed. The condition is that now pillars are being put in front of people’s houses and citizens are upset with this. Citizens say that pillars are put in the middle of the road for the construction of flyover, but here the pillars are being put in front of our entrance gates on the side of the road.

People’s houses are also falling apart. The concept of such a flyover was not conceived by the local citizens. Nor is such a flyover needed here.

On the other hand the work is going in on snail pace and random digging of roads.

Recently, local residents created ruckus in National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) office. Former MLA Krishna Khopade has warned of citizen protest. In such a situation, the question arises that when the local MLAs are unhappy with the work of flyover, then what will be the situation of those living around the under construction flyover.

Lokmat Times tried to discuss with the residents in the area and they agreed to speak on the condition of anonymity that the pillars in front of the gate is complete nuisance and it will lead to many other issues in the future. The residents are already miffed with the slow pace of development of the flyover.

Pillars are being put in front of many houses in Purana Bhandara Road, Sonbanagar. Pillar has also been put in front of HB Town Gate at Pardi Chowk and people living in the area are bound to object it. Some people are already mulling to shifting to other localities.

Due to pits on the road, many people have developed back and neck issues.

Accidents may increase

Councilor Purushottam Hazare said that the people in the area has lost lives due to construction work of Pardi flyover and more accidents are expected to happen.

MLA Krishna Khopade had announced the first underground flyover and he is responsible for all the trouble, alleged residents. Now when problems have increased, he is trying to shy away and putting the blame on NHAI and the contracted company.
