Nagpur, June 23
The convocation ceremony of Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) will be held on July 9. The decision was taken in a meeting of the university and both the special and regular convocation ceremony will be organised simultaneously on this day.
Governor Bhagat Singh Koshyari will be present as the chief guest at the function.The ceremony will be held in the Convocation Hall of the administrative building located in the Civil Lines.
Retired Chief Justice of India Justice Sharad Bobde will be conferred with the honorary DLitt at the special convocation. This ceremony will be organised under Covid guidelines.
Therefore, only Justice Bobde will be conferred the title in a direct ceremony. Also, only a few medal and award winning students will be invited to the function.
The scholars who are entitled to get PhD degrees will not be called for the function. Only their names will be announced at the ceremony. The degree will be given to them later. Sources said that a final decision has not been taken on whether the medal and award winning students should be invited to the ceremony or not.
If called, how many and which students should be called. The reason for this is that the number of students entitled to medals and prizes at the convocation is 180. Calling such a large number of students will violate Covid guidelines. In this regard, Dr Prafulla Sable, director of the University's Examination and Evaluation Board, said that this issue is currently under consideration. Some concrete measures will be planned so that the desire of any student or research scholar to be honored in the convocation ceremony does not remain unfulfilled.
