Slum Soccer, a unit of Krida Vikas Sanstha, Bokara, recently organised a football tournament for women at Dipti Signal’s RTO ground.

Three women teams were formed from Dipti Signal, Bhandewadi, and Kalamna. Each team played two matches with great zeal and in competitive spirit. In the first match, Dipti Signal defeated Bhandewadi 4-2 while in the second encounter Bhandewadi edged past

Kalamna 3-1. In the third match of this exhibition tournament, Dipti thrashed Kalamna 4-1 after trailing initially. The Shakti League will be held under Slum Soccer’s ongoing project in five slum communities of Nagpur.

The league will be held monthly at various parts of the city with a view to to popularise the game, to get more girls involved in it, to keep more women in the game longer and to further leverage the empowerment of women and the societal benefits of football.

During this tournament Slum Soccer selected five girls from the participating teams who will undergo a three-day youth leadership training programme in January 2021.They will be taught about essential life skills, football for development and football development concepts and a project plan to promote and foster the game of football, informs a press release issued by Slum Soccer
