Wakhare has also been a part of the Mumbai Indians IPL franchise. His long and dedicated career has made him a significant figure in Vidarbha's cricketing history. HE has retired from the Ranji Trophy after helping his team win their third title in the 2024-25 season.

At Nagpur Cricket Academy ground,Wakhare was greeted by NCA directors Madhav Bakre, Ashutosh Pathak, and Mohan Sambre with a floral basket and memento.

Madhav Bakre's speech highlighted Akshay's remarkable achievements in national cricket, attributing his success to his simplicity, humbleness, and consistent performance. He emphasised that Akshay will undoubtedly serve as an inspiration for aspiring young cricketers.

The felicitation programme was conducted by Dr. Prashant Rathi. Sharad Padhye, Ravi Kulkarni, Akshay Wadkar, Yash Rathod and NCA players were present on the occasion.
