Nagpur, Dec 5

“The development of city is important, but trees should not be sacrificed in the process of building the Inter Modal Station (IMS) at Ajni, said social and environmental activist Ashu Saxena.

According to Saxena, if you look at the history, the founder of the city king Bakht Buland Shah to Raghuji Raje Bhosle, for the matter the British rulers carried out the development work at new and vacant places. The old infrastructure and environment should not be damaged in the the process of creating new infrastructural development. But from last few years the development work is being carried devastating the environment and infrastructure, which is not correct. The policies and plans should be made in such a way that there is no damage to the environment. Tax payers money should not be spent arbitrarily.

Saxena further said that if the IMS has to be made, it can be developed at Khapri, Butibori, Godhni or Kamptee stations. It the IMS is being made on these stations, the traffic coming to the city will be reduced. If it is built in Ajni, the city traffic will not be reduced and again a new plan will have to be made, he said. The future plans and policies should be made accordingly and Nagpur railway station, Mor Bhavan, Ajni and Ganeshpeth bus stand are in close proximity.

The area in the 10 kilometers vicinity of Nagpur city has been included in the Metro region, so that it could be developed and in future it would be extended to 25 kilometers for its development. So in this case, if the new development work has to be made it should be made in these areas, as cement road has to be developed or IMS has to be built, so that it supplements to the existing infrastructure.

Hospital is need of the

hour in current scenario

Saxena said that in the present scenario, instead of the IMS, hospital should be constructed. He said that the city boundaries are increasing but hospitals are not increasing and there is a lot of pressure on GMCH and Mayo hospitals. There is a need to build a hospital in Butibori, Khapri or Kamptee and the NMC should also improve there hospitals and primary health centres. While carrying out all these, environment and existing infrastructure should not be damaged.
