Nagpur, Dec 26
Around 1,000 MT (metric tonnes) of garbage is being collected from Nagpur everyday, which is dumped in Bhandewadi dumping yard. Out of the total waste generated, half of the garbage is recycled using various methods, but rest of it is still dumped. On the other hand, the waste is not getting collected from houses, even though the vehicles are fitted with GPS. When will 100 per cent processing and collection of waste happen is a big question?
Around 10 lakh MT garbage is dumped in Bhandewadi dumping yard, out of which 2 lakh MT of garbage is being disposed off through bio-mining. But the speed at which the garbage is being dumped in the yard everyday, the heap of garbage will again increase in no time. Hanjar is processing around 200 MT and 200 MT wet waste is being dumped into ground, which is turning into manure in 40 days. Around 100 MT dry waste is being picked up by 283 rag pickers.
No control on garbage collection
Two companies AG Enviro and BVG were appointed to collect waste in the city. They were given the task of collecting garbage from houses and markets. Around 350 vehicles are being deployed to collect garbage. There are 50 big vehicles, still at many places in the city garbage vehicles are coming after a day or two to collect the waste. While at many places, they hardly pick-up the waste. NMC health department is not taking any action against the company ion this matter which hints at a nexus between the zone level officers and the companies.
Aim to achieve
100% recycling
