Nagpur, Dec 30

A youth’s throat was slit due to nylon manja, causing serious injury to him. The incident took place in Zingabai Takali and the youth is admitted to hospital. The incident proves that nylon manja is being used unscrupulously by vendors and citizens. The youth has been identified as Aditya Santosh Bharadwaj (17), a resident of Godhni.

Aditya was undergoing MSCET coaching in Zingabai Takali and was going to class on his two-wheeler (MH-40-AZ-8806) in the morning, when he came in contact with nylon manja near Muffadal Plywood. His throat was slit, injuring him seriously and he fell from the bike. The bystanders where not able to gauge the reason behind the accident of Aditya, but soon realise that it was due to nylon manja. A tea vendor rushed him to nearby private hospital.

After examining Aditya, the doctor said that the injury is severe, as his vein is cut and then he was rushed to Alexis Hospital on Koradi Road and he was operated upon immediately and his condition was little better. The people have expressed their anguish about the incident. Every year the police and administration are taking action, but there is no check on the vendors, as they are selling the nylon manja without any fear. Mostly two-wheeler riders are seriously affected with the manja. Every year during Makar Sankranti, many people die due to injury from nylon manja. There is no control over the sale of nylon manja and it is easily available. The nylon manja is smuggled into city under the pretext of other goods and as the transporters get more money, they are also collaborating with the traders. The police is able to catch a very few traders and NMC’s NDS is not at all successful in curbing the nylon manja menace. NDS has formed a special unit to catch hold of traders selling nylon manja, but the team has not taken action against anyone as yet.

Lost his father 5 months ago

The Bharadwaj family has been deeply disturbed due to the incident as Aditya lost his father five months ago due to Covid. Aditya has younger brother and now widow mother and he belongs to middle-class family. The citizens are demanding strict action the people selling and using nylon manja.
