The investigation into the obscene scandal involving self-styled godman Ashok Kharat has intensified, with the Enforcement Directorate now stepping in to examine the case. Devendra Fadnavis confirmed that the central agency is probing aspects linked to financial dealings and land transactions. He emphasised that strict action will be taken against all those involved, adding that no individual connected to the case will be spared. The state government had earlier constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT), which is already conducting a detailed probe. Authorities have indicated that the case will be pursued thoroughly to uncover every link and ensure that all accused face stringent punishment without exception.

As the investigation progresses, new revelations continue to surface, exposing a wider network of alleged wrongdoing. The SIT has expanded its focus to include land agents, builders and revenue officials from Nashik, Pune and Ahilyanagar. Reports suggest that multiple brokers have been questioned, while several government officials are also under scrutiny. In one instance, land valued at ₹60 lakh was reportedly acquired for just ₹22 lakh, with the complainant said to have been introduced to Kharat through an intermediary. Additionally, five builders from Pune and two from Nashik are being examined for their possible involvement. Kharat may have conducted land transactions worth nearly ₹300 crore with assistance from builders, raising suspicions of a larger nexus aiding illegal property dealings.

The case has also highlighted serious allegations of exploitation and abuse carried out under the guise of faith. At least eight cases related to the exploitation of women have been registered against Kharat. Investigators have identified six victims, out of whom five women and the husband of one victim have formally lodged complaints, leading to his arrest by the Nashik Crime Branch. Officials revealed that Kharat allegedly claimed supernatural powers and used religious influence to coerce followers into sexual acts. During raids at his office, residence, farmhouse and trust premises, police seized cash, electronic devices, a firearm and ammunition. Properties including land parcels, a farmhouse, gold and a flat in Pune have also been confiscated, with assets worth around ₹40 crore identified so far.

Acknowledging the gravity of the matter, the government has appointed a Special Investigation Team led by Deputy Commissioner of Police Tejasvi Satpute to ensure a comprehensive inquiry. Speaking in Nashik after a meeting with spiritual leaders regarding the Kumbh Mela, Fadnavis reiterated that any wrongdoing committed in the name of religion will not be tolerated. He assured that the investigation will reach its logical conclusion, uncovering the root of the offences and identifying everyone involved. The chief minister also noted that increasing public confidence has encouraged more individuals to come forward with information, strengthening the case. With multiple agencies now involved, the probe is expected to deepen further in the coming days.
