Residents of Nashik are battling an intense heatwave as the city's maximum temperature surged to 37.5 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, marking the highest temperature recorded this season. The sudden rise in heat has led to a noticeable decrease in traffic on city roads, especially in the afternoon, as people avoid stepping out in the scorching sun.

The city has been experiencing extreme weather fluctuations over the past week. Just days ago, temperatures were significantly lower, with the minimum temperature dropping to 10 degrees last Thursday. However, within a short span, the maximum temperature has risen sharply from 33 degrees to 37 degrees, leaving residents struggling to adapt to the drastic shift.

On Tuesday, the minimum temperature stood at 19 degrees, making mornings and nights relatively cooler. However, as the day progressed, the intense heatwave took over, making outdoor activities challenging. Market areas appeared deserted in the afternoon, and traffic on Nashik’s otherwise busy roads remained sparse.

Environmentalists have expressed concerns over rising temperatures, pointing out that rapid urbanization and excessive concrete structures are contributing to the heat. They emphasize the need for large-scale tree plantation and conservation efforts in the upcoming monsoon season to help mitigate rising temperatures.

According to the Meteorological Department, the heatwave is expected to persist for the next two days. Residents are advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun, and take necessary precautions to cope with the extreme weather conditions.
