The condition of the student from a government ashram school in Igatpuri, suspected to have Guillain-Barré Syndrome (GBS), remains stable. However, his test report is still awaited. As a precautionary measure, the district health department conducted a survey in the ashram school and surrounding villages to check for similar cases, but no other patients with GBS-like symptoms were found, sources confirmed.

As per state-level health guidelines, preliminary screening is being conducted at all government hospitals in the district. Citizens experiencing symptoms similar to GBS have been advised to visit the nearest government health center. However, health officials clarified that apart from this single suspected case, no other patients with similar symptoms have come forward for testing.

Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis took note of the case during a review of the government’s 100-day activities. In a video conference held from the District Collector’s Office on Thursday (27), health officials were instructed to take all necessary precautions and closely monitor the situation.

With concerns over GBS, the state health department has issued an alert, directing district authorities to implement safety measures. Specific guidelines have been given to the district surgeon and administration, including taluka-wise precautions. Dedicated officers have been appointed at the state level to oversee the response.

The suspected patient, a student from Mundegaon Ashram School, was initially sent home after developing a chickenpox-like illness. When his condition worsened, he was admitted to the district hospital. However, it has not been confirmed whether he is suffering from GBS. His diagnosis will be determined once the test report is received.

Meanwhile, a medical team from the district hospital has examined all students at the ashram school as a preventive measure. Water samples from the area have also been collected and sent for testing to rule out any environmental factors.

Health officials continue to monitor the situation, assuring that necessary steps are being taken to prevent any further health concerns.
