Ten months after a fighter jet crashed in the fields of Shirasgaon in Niphad taluka, Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) has compensated three farmers whose crops and property were damaged in the incident. A total of Rs 32.50 lakh has been directly deposited into their bank accounts. The farmers have expressed satisfaction and relief after receiving the compensation.

The incident occurred on June 4, 2024, when an Indian Air Force Sukhoi-S B-182 fighter jet took off for a routine training exercise. Shortly after take-off, the aircraft developed a technical fault and crashed at 1:10 pm in a field near Shirasgaon, Wadali, in Niphad taluka.

Fortunately, the pilot and co-pilot ejected safely using parachutes. However, the jet burst into flames upon crashing, damaging nearby crops and infrastructure. Vineyards, tomato and coriander crops, and wells were affected by the impact and fire.

HAL immediately conducted a survey and prepared a detailed report of the damage. After nearly 10 months of follow-up and assessment, the compensation was finalized and disbursed.

Farmer Sukhdev More received Rs 26 lakh for the severe damage to his two and a half bighas of vineyard. Dnyaneshwar More was given Rs 5.80 lakh for the loss of his tomato crop and well, while Laxman More received Rs 73,000 for the damage to his coriander crop.

Speaking about the incident, Sukhdev More said, “Ten months ago, a fighter jet crashed near our farm. Our vineyard was completely damaged. After months of waiting, the administration has provided compensation. We are satisfied with the support we have received.”

The compensation has brought relief to the affected farmers, who were unsure about recovering from the unexpected loss. HAL’s prompt action in acknowledging the damage and offering financial aid has been appreciated.
