In a significant development aimed at transforming the upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela into a tech-savvy event, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has directed the establishment a dedicated Kumbh Mela Authority. The authority will oversee preparations for the Simhastha Kumbh Mela scheduled for 2027 in Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, branding it as the 'Digital Technology Kumbh'.

During a review meeting chaired by Chief Minister Fadnavis, key officials including Water Resources Minister Girish Mahajan, Chief Secretary Sujata Saunik, Nashik Divisional Commissioner Dr. Praveen Gedam, District Collector Jalaj Sharma, Nashik Municipal Commissioner Manisha Khatri, and various department secretaries were present. Divisional Commissioner Dr. Gedam presented an overview of the preparations, highlighting insights gathered from a study visit to the Mahakumbh Mela in Prayagraj.

Chief Minister Fadnavis stressed the need for meticulous planning, seamless coordination among systems, and swift execution of tasks under the ambit of the Kumbh Mela Authority Act. Anticipating a significant influx of pilgrims, akin to previous gatherings in Prayagraj, he called for enhanced infrastructure planning including wider roads, expanded rail and air connectivity, and the potential construction of a coastal road along the Godavari riverbank, subject to drone survey feasibility.

Addressing transportation concerns, the Chief Minister proposed strengthened road networks from key hubs like Mumbai, Pune, and Shirdi to Nashik-Trimbakeshwar, with provisions for efficient parking and shuttle services using e-buses. He also urged railway authorities to enhance facilities at Nashik Road, Igatpuri, and Kasara stations. Religious corridors connecting Kumbh Mela sites to nearby spiritual destinations such as Trimbakeshwar, Shirdi, and Vani were also prioritized, along with conservation efforts for historical sites and the removal of encroachments near temples.

In a forward-looking approach, Chief Minister Fadnavis advocated extensively integrating artificial intelligence and digital technologies into the event's management. Proposals include using AI for crowd and traffic management, deploying digital exhibitions, and hosting a competition to design the Simhastha Kumbh Mela's official logo.

The upcoming Simhastha Kumbh Mela aims not only to accommodate the spiritual needs of millions but also to set new benchmarks in event management through innovative technological interventions.
