The Regional Transport Office (RTO) has taken strict action against eight minor drivers in the past month. The court fined minors and their parents between ₹30,000 and ₹32,000 for violating traffic laws. The RTO has again urged parents not to allow minors to drive vehicles.

The RTO's speed squad inspected 4,342 vehicles in 2024. Among them, 246 drivers were caught driving under the influence of alcohol. In one such case, the court imposed a ₹37,500 fine and ordered the guilty driver to remain in court until proceedings were completed.

The RTO regularly conducts drives against underage driving. As per the Motor Vehicles Act, if a minor (below 18 years) is caught driving: They cannot obtain a driving license until the age of 25.

Their parents or guardians can face a fine of up to ₹25,000 and three years of imprisonment. The RTO has appealed to the public to follow traffic rules and avoid drinking and driving. Additionally, minors should never be allowed to drive, as it endangers their lives and the safety of others.
