Unseasonal rains that lashed parts of the district on Wednesday, April 2, have caused severe damage to agricultural crops, affecting hundreds of farmers. According to a preliminary report from the administration, crops on a total of 1,297 hectares across several talukas have been damaged.

Out of this, horticultural crops on 1,255 hectares in 30 villages of rural areas have been affected. Orchards on 42 hectares have also suffered losses. So far, 1,990 farmers have been reported as affected by this unexpected weather. The most affected areas include Satana, Kalwan, Dindori, and Nashik talukas. The main crops damaged include onion, wheat, tomatoes, and various vegetables. Fruit orchards such as grapes, mangoes, and especially pomegranates have also suffered. Among all the talukas, Satana has faced the maximum damage—crops on 1,155 hectares in 18 villages have been destroyed, affecting around 1,700 farmers. Dindori taluka has reported the least damage.

Farmers across the region are deeply concerned and confused about how to recover from this sudden crisis. Many are now urging the government to immediately provide financial assistance to those who have suffered crop losses.

Meanwhile, the Meteorological Department has advised farmers to take preventive measures as the weather remains unstable.

Unseasonal rains have not only hit Nashik but have also caused large-scale destruction in other parts of the state. On Thursday, for the third day in a row, rains continued in several districts. In Vidarbha and Khandesh regions, two farm labourers were killed by lightning in Bhandara. Hailstorms and strong winds in places like Bhokardan in Jalna and Washim, Wardha, and Nandurbar have further damaged Rabi and summer crops.

Farmers across North and Central Maharashtra, Vidarbha, and Marathwada are facing heavy losses due to these unpredictable weather patterns.
