A fire broke out in the BYK College premises late Sunday night (1st) after a firecracker spark ignited a pile of straw in the parking lot. The fire brigade received an emergency call at around 10:30 PM, and a fire truck from the Singada Lake headquarters rushed to the scene with sirens blaring. However, as it reached College Road, celebrations over India’s Champions Trophy victory caused a major roadblock, delaying the emergency response.

The area was packed with enthusiastic youths celebrating the cricket win with fireworks and dancing. Amidst the chaos, a group of reckless individuals climbed onto the fire truck and started dancing, completely ignoring the urgency of the situation. Shocked bystanders criticized their behavior, questioning how they could treat an emergency vehicle as part of their celebration.

Despite the loud siren and attempts by responsible citizens to clear the way, the fire truck remained stuck for nearly 15-20 minutes. The situation escalated when around 8-10 youths climbed onto the moving vehicle, standing on it and holding a mock ‘meeting.’ Some even danced atop the truck, risking their safety.

With traffic completely disrupted, the Riot Control Team was deployed at Model Colony Chowk as a precaution. Around 11 PM, Gangapur Police arrived and managed to disperse the crowd, allowing the fire truck to proceed.

Though firefighters successfully doused the flames, the incident has sparked outrage. Many citizens are questioning the lack of awareness and responsibility among the youths, asking—who would have been held accountable if a tragedy had occurred?
