Gurugram, Jan 13 Sleuths from the Chief Minister's flying squad on Wednesday raided a mobile phone shop in Sector 44 market near Kanhai village and arrested one person on charges of selling SIM cards to people without documents in Gurugram.

According to the police, the accused used to charge Rs 800 to 1,000 for each SIM card to carry out this fraud.

The investigating team has also recovered forged documents, photographs used in the forgery, Aadhaar card copies, a register in which the accused used to make entries and one mobile phone which was used to activate SIM cards from the possession of the accused.

According to the police, the CM's flying squad, under the supervision of Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Inderjeet Yadav, raided the premises of Mithila Communication and arrested the accused after a tip-off on Wednesday.

"During questioning, the accused disclosed that he was running the mobile shop for the past four years and used to sell SIM cards of different service providers without any documents and charged Rs 800 to 1,000 per card," Yadav said.

The arrested person has been identified as Vijay Kumar Mandal (30), a native of Supaul district in Bihar, currently residing in a rented accommodation in Kanhai village in Gurugram.

The culprit could have helped anti-social elements misuse the mobile service, and also cheated the service providers and the government, the officials said, adding that the service providers should conduct frequent verification of their customers to avoid misuse.

"We are investigating how many such SIM cards were sold by the accused in the span of four years. We are also collecting more information about the involvement of other suspects in the racket," Yadav added.
