Gurugram (Haryana) [India], February 22 : The 19-year-old female student who has alleged that she was brutally assaulted in Gurugram by her live-in partner, and is undergoing treatment at the Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi, is in a "stable condition", the Gurugram Police said on Sunday.

The student has alleged that her live-in partner poured sanitiser on her private parts and set them on fire. The arrested alleged accused has been identified as a 19-year-old from Narela. The Gurugram police have imposed serious charges, including that of rape, against him. He is currently in police custody.

The FIR, registered under the Badshahpur police station area in Gurugram, based on her statement, states that he was having a physical relationship with her under the pretext of marriage, thrashing her and subjecting her to violence. The girl has been admitted to Safdarjung Hospital in New Delhi. Sections 115, 118(1), 118(2), 127(2), 69 and 351(2) of BNS have been invoked in the FIR.

"In this case, the victim's family informed the Gurugram police that the girl was being beaten by one of her friends. The girl was rescued by the police and hospitalised. She is currently undergoing treatment. Her condition is currently stable..." the Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Gurugram Police, Sandeep Kumar said.

"Acting promptly, the accused, a 19-year-old man named Shivam from Delhi's Narela, was immediately arrested. Based on the written complaint, the police have imposed serious charges, including rape and other charges. The girl is currently under treatment. The accused was arrested and taken into police custody. After police remand, he was produced in court and sent to jail on court orders. He is currently in jail. A serious investigation is underway into the case, which is being conducted by the police..." Kumar said.

Furthermore, the Gurugram Police PRO stated that the victim had known the alleged accused since September 2025.

"They knew each other well, and the current sections of the case require doctors to provide their opinions... Whatever other sections arise from the doctors' opinions, the police will also apply them to this case... During the police interrogation of the accused, he admitted to committing the assault..." the police PRO said

Kumar assured that the police will demand strict punishment for the horrendous act.

"He brutally assaulted the victim... The sections have been imposed based on the injuries noted in the preliminary MLR... As I mentioned, the doctor provides his opinion, which is a legal obligation. Following that opinion, other sections will also be filed..." he said.

The victim's lawyer, Reena Rai told ANI, "...She (victim) was being tortured by her partner...I spoke with her parents and they informed me that he set her (victim) private parts on fire using hand sanitiser...He burnt her entire body and did dirty things inside the washroom and did not even let her go out. Somehow, she called her parents...Her father also confirmed that the medical examination has confirmed rape."

Rai said, "But the section filed at the Badshahpur police station is only for minor injuries...This is also an attempt to murder, and rape charges have not been filed. Whatever confirmation was given, it was provided by his father...Her face was completely swollen from the beating, and her hair was completely cut off...They burned her private parts and inserted something inside. That's what I heard. Her father was saying, it's like the Nirbhaya case...The victim's mother is not talking at all right now. Her father also seems completely unstable...".
