Bengaluru, April 13 BJP State President and MLA, B.Y. Vijayendra, on Monday said that the decision to provide 33 per cent reservation for women is a historic moment that deserves to be recorded in golden letters, and described it as a result of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s strong will.

Speaking after watching the live telecast of the Nari Shakti Vandan Sammelan held in New Delhi in the presence of Prime Minister Modi and other dignitaries, Vijayendra said that the Prime Minister has unwavering faith in the strength of women in the country.

Vijayendra accused the Congress party of insulting woman power, stating that AICC President Mallikarjun Kharge and other leaders have termed women’s reservation a “political gimmick” by the BJP.

He stated that PM Modi has repeatedly conveyed not only to the nation but to the entire world that woman power plays a crucial role in nation-building, and appreciated his commitment in this regard.

Vijayendra said that the role of women will be vital in transforming India into a developed nation by 2047, and added that the long-standing dream of women in the country is now becoming a reality.

He also noted that the Prime Minister had acknowledged the contribution of all political parties in the implementation of women’s reservation.

Describing the decision to grant 33 per cent reservation for women as significant, Vijayendra extended his greetings to all and said the Prime Minister’s firm and determined decision should be welcomed with joy.

Former Deputy Chief Minister and MP, Govind Karjol, along with other leaders and office-bearers of the BJP Mahila Morcha, were present on the occasion.

Meanwhile, Padma Shri awardee and founder of Sumangali Seva Ashrama, Dr. S.G. Susheelamma, has said that the long-standing demand for 33 per cent reservation for women is finally being realised under the leadership of Prime Minister Modi, calling it a moment of happiness for women across the country.

Addressing a press conference at Sumangali Seva Ashrama in R.T. Nagar in Bengaluru, she said that the demand for 33 per cent reservation had been pending for several years.

“Today, women have excelled in all fields and made a name for themselves. Greater reservation in politics will empower them further and strengthen their participation,” she said.

She stated that women today have the capability to lead the world.

“There was a time when women were sidelined within households, but today women’s power is immense. From villages to the national level, they have proved their capabilities. They are working as scientists, judges, and pilots.

"Even people from tribal and forest communities have come forward and begun to express themselves,” she noted.

Dr. Susheelamma said that several welfare schemes introduced by the Prime Minister have contributed to the uplift of women. She cited initiatives such as 'Beti Bachao, Beti Padhao' as efforts that have strengthened women.

She added that increased reservation in legislative bodies would help realise the vision of a developed India.

“Women today are forming self-help groups, learning to speak confidently in public forums, pursuing higher education, securing employment, and engaging in self-employment. All this has been possible due to the initiatives taken by the Prime Minister,” she said.

She further stated that the delay in implementing women’s reservation had been a long-standing concern, but expressed relief that it is now being addressed. “On behalf of all women, I extend my gratitude to Prime Minister Modi,” she said.

Urging women to come forward and take active roles, she said that greater representation as MLAs and MPs would further strengthen their voice.

“With reservation, women will become more aware and confident. They will think beyond personal power and work towards societal development. They will gain the courage to address issues such as drinking water, housing, electricity, and roads within their constituencies,” she added.

She appealed to everyone to support the efforts of the Prime Minister in advancing women’s empowerment.
