4 criminals held after encounter on Dwarka Expressway

The Gurugram Police have arrested four criminals wanted in several cases after an encounter near Tek Chand Nagar on the Dwarka Expressway.

Three of the four criminals were injured in the exchange of fire that took place around 11 pm on Tuesday, the police said on Wednesday. They have been identified as Lokesh, Pradeep, Neeraj and Jagbeer.

"The crime branch had received a tip-off about them coming to the DLF area to commit a crime. A trap was laid. When spotted, the criminals travelling in Mahindra XUV 500, were asked to stop. But they tried to escape," said a senior police officer.

"Two police teams chased the vehicle and located it in Dhanwapur area of old city. One of the gang members fired at the police party, which retaliated injuring three. The injured were taken to Safdarjung hospital in Delhi for treatment," the officer said.

Four pistols and 25 live cartridges were recovered from them. They have been booked under the relevant sections of IPC at the Rajendra Park police station.

"Lokesh was carrying a reward of Rs 1 lakh on his head, and Pradeep and Neeraj Rs 50,000 each," the officer said.

During questioning, they confessed to their involvement in two murders at Vikashpuri and Kapashera in Delhi, an attempt to murder in the Najafgarh area, and loot of Rs 23 lakh and Rs 25 lakh in Delhi and Sonepat.

They had snatched the XUV they were travelling in at gunpoint in Bhiwari, Rajasthan, and were also involved in looting of Ciaz sedan in Rajasthan.
