Ayodhya’s Ram Mandir chief priest, Acharya Satyendra Das, passed away on Wednesday morning at the age of 85. He was admitted to the Neurology ICU of Sanjay Gandhi Post Graduate Institute of Medical Sciences (SGPGI) in Lucknow on Sunday after suffering a stroke.

Das initially received treatment at a private hospital in Ayodhya before being referred to SGPGI for advanced care. He was also battling diabetes and high blood pressure. 

Acharya Satyendra Das was the longest-serving chief priest of the Ram temple.

Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath expressed grief over his passing, calling it an irreparable loss to the social and spiritual world. “The demise of Acharya Shri Satyendra Kumar Das Ji Maharaj, the supreme devotee of Lord Ram and the chief priest of Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Temple, Shri Ayodhya Dham is extremely sad and an irreparable loss to the spiritual world. Humble tribute! We pray to Lord Shri Ram to grant a place to the departed soul at his feet and give strength to the grief-stricken disciples and followers to bear this immense loss,” CM Yogi posted on X.

CM Yogi had also visited SGPGI on Tuesday evening to enquire about his health.
