After Delhi-NCR, an earthquake of magnitude 4.0 on the Richter Scale hit Bihar's Siwan at 08:02 am on Monday morning, February 17. According to the National Center for Seismology, the epicentre was located 10 kilometres deep. Tremors were felt in several parts of Bihar, including Patna, Supaul, Araria, Sheohar and Siwan.

This earthquake occurred approximately two and a half hours after tremors were felt in Delhi-NCR. Residents reported feeling the building shaking during the earthquake in Delhi.

"EQ of M: 4.0, On: 17/02/2025 08:02:08 IST, Lat: 25.93 N, Long: 84.42 E, Depth: 10 Km, Location: Siwan, Bihar," NCS said. 

In the early hours of Monday, around 5:36 am, Delhi residents were woken up by strong tremors, with several people rushing out of their homes. Though the quake was at a magnitude of 4.0 on the Richter scale, with a depth of five kilometres, the effect of the jolt left people in shock.

Shallow earthquakes, originating five or 10 kilometres below the surface, tend to cause more damage than those originating deep below the surface.
