Andhra Pradesh Tragedy : At Least 18 Dead After Explosion in Firecracker Factory, Several Injured
A massive explosion took place in firecracker in Vetlapalem village of Kakinada district, Andhra Pradesh on Saturday February 28, 2026. So far, 18 people have died in this explosion and many others are seriously injured. Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Home Minister Vangalapudi Anitha expressed fear that the death toll may rise further, while giving information about the incident.
According to Home Minister Anitha, "According to the initial information we have received, 18 people have died, while six have suffered serious burns. The injured have been immediately admitted to a nearby hospital and are undergoing treatment." Also, according to District Magistrate Sagili Shan Mohan, it is believed that the condition of many of the injured in the explosion is very serious. According to official information, about 20 people were working in the factory when the explosion took place.
Meanwhile, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu expressed deep grief over the incident. Posting on social media platform 'X', he said, "The accident that took place at a cracker factory in Vetlapalem village is extremely unfortunate."
He immediately contacted the district administration, reviewed the rescue operation and directed to provide all possible assistance to the victims. The Chief Minister has instructed senior officers and ministers to visit the spot. He also assured that the government stands firmly with the affected families.
