The Centre has initiated a probe into alleged violations in the renovation of former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal's official residence. The inquiry follows a report submitted by the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) on February 13.

The CPWD has been tasked with conducting a detailed investigation into claims that building norms were breached during the construction of the 6 Flagstaff Road Bungalow, an opulent property spanning 40,000 square yards (8 acres). The probe will examine whether government regulations were bypassed, as the BJP has criticized the residence, calling it "Sheeshmahal."

Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Monday urged Lt Governor VK Saxena to cancel the merger of four government properties with the 6 Flagstaff Road bungalow.

In a letter to the Lt Governor, Sachdeva alleged that the expansion of the bungalow was carried out through the unauthorised merger of these government properties. He further stated that if the BJP comes to power in Delhi, the newly elected Chief Minister will not reside in the bungalow.

The renovated bungalow served as Arvind Kejriwal’s official residence from 2015 until October 2024. He vacated the property after stepping down as Chief Minister amid intense political scrutiny from the BJP, which had centered its 2025 Delhi Assembly election campaign on allegations of corruption.

A PWD report published in October 2024 detailed extravagant renovations and the installation of high-end appliances at the bungalow, bolstering the BJP’s attacks on the AAP leadership.

The campaign worked as the BJP ended AAP's rule over the national capital to return to power after over 26 years. The BJP won 48 of the 70 assembly seats, AAP won 22 and the Congress scored a duck.
