Jaipur, April 8 Former Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot has intensified his attack on the Bhajan Lal Sharma-led government by releasing Chapter 17 of his digital series “Intezaar Shastra”. This time, he has raised concerns over the condition of sports infrastructure and support for athletes in the state.
In his latest remarks, Gehlot alleged that key facilities like the Rajasthan State Sports Institute (RSSI) and Jodhpur’s Amritlal Stadium are being neglected. He questioned why fully developed infrastructure remains unused despite the government promoting the slogan “If Rajasthan plays, Rajasthan will flourish”.
Gehlot stated that the Rajasthan State Sports Institute in Jodhpur, developed during the Congress government on the lines of the National Institute of Sports in Patiala, is fully equipped with modern infrastructure, including a synthetic track and training facilities. However, he claimed that the absence of coach appointments has rendered the institute ineffective, depriving talented athletes of proper training opportunities.
According to him, the project, built at a cost of crores, is now turning into a “white elephant” due to government inaction.
Raising another concern, Gehlot highlighted the deteriorating condition of Jodhpur’s historic Amritlal Stadium. He alleged that a lack of maintenance and administrative apathy has led to the decay of infrastructure, leaving local athletes frustrated and underserved.
Calling the government’s approach “short-sighted”, Gehlot argued that failing to utilise major investments amounts to a waste of public funds. He further alleged that projects in Jodhpur are being sidelined deliberately, terming it an injustice to the youth of the Marwar region.
Through his ongoing “Intezaar Shastra” series, Gehlot continues to spotlight projects initiated during his tenure, attempting to frame the current government as one that is slowing down development rather than building upon past work.
The series has also triggered a broader political debate, especially on social media, over credit and accountability for development projects in Rajasthan.
State President Madan Rathore, meanwhile, had said that Gehlot should adopt Santosh Shastra. Rathore advised former CM Ashok Gehlot to adopt "Santosh Shastra" (philosophy of contentment) and embrace "Vanaprastha" (retirement from active politics).
Rathore argued that Gehlot's political career is over, urging him to stop waiting for power and make way for new leadership.
