Balasore, Odisha (February 22, 2025): A Chennai-bound express train derailed in Odisha’s Balasore district after colliding with an electric pole on Saturday. The impact caused a battery to fall, but no casualties were reported. A video from IANS shows a crowd near the derailed coaches as repairs continue.

According to reports, the New Jalpaiguri-Chennai Express was traveling from Kolkata when the accident occurred near Sabira railway station. Senior railway officials have arrived at the scene to investigate the incident.  Further details on the cause of the accident are expected after the investigation.

The derailment follows an incident on February 5 when a goods train crashed into a residential colony in Rourkela, causing panic. Officials said the train stopped just short of nearby huts, preventing a disaster.
